Jane Pettinger, 86, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. She leaves behind a legacy of tireless work ethic, resilience, and a deep-seated love for Green Lake, Wisconsin.
Born on May 19, 1939, in Gary, Indiana, Jane was a woman who defined herself through her remarkable efficiency and "get-it-done" spirit. No task was ever left unfinished; she met every challenge with an immediate call to action and a sharp, focused mind.
Jane’s professional journey was marked by a pioneering entrepreneurial drive. In Madison, Wisconsin, she established herself as a formidable property owner, managing student rentals with a hands-on approach that was legendary. She didn’t just manage properties; she maintained them, often performing repairs herself. These moments became teaching opportunities for her children, whom she frequently enlisted to help, instilling in them the same practical skills and grit she possessed. Later in life, she transitioned her expertise into a successful, multi-year career as a Realtor, helping others find their own place to call home.
Away from her professional pursuits, Jane’s heart belonged to Green Lake. She and her beloved late husband, Jack Pettinger, cherished their time at the family lake house on its shores. This sanctuary became the backdrop for countless memories for her family, where she took great joy in watching the younger generations enjoy the water and the beauty of the lake.
She is survived by her four children: Kathy Pettinger, Jerry Pettinger, John Pettinger, and Jim Pettinger, and her sister Judy. Jane's legacy further lives on through her nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, all of whom shared her love for spending time at Green Lake.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, and her siblings, Mary and Corky.
A Celebration of Jane's Life will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a service beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, May 8, 2026 at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave, Madison WI. Refreshments will be served.
