MADISON
James J. Statz passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at age 78.
Jim was born in Madison on May 31, 1940 the son of the late Isadore and Mary (Murphy) Statz. Jim attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School, graduated from Edgewood High School, class of '58, and received a BS in Accountancy, Beta Alph Psi, in 1962 from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
He married Abigail Enright at Blessed Sacrament on December 27, 1961. They resided in Beaver Dam for many years and were members at the Old Hickory Country Club for 32 years and 15 years at Sugarmill Woods in Homosassa, FL. He resided in Madison for the last 15 years.
Jim was a CPA and worked in public accounting for Arthur Andersen for 5 years and as Vice President and Treasurer at National Rivet in Waupun for 32 years before retiring to start his own tax preparation practice, which included providing free tax preparation for the elderly in Homosassa and Madison.
He cherished family trips to St. Augustine Beach, FL, Big Powderhorn Mountain, Tuttle Lake Cottage, Europe, Hawaii and especially cherished their trip to the Dominican Republic with the entire family for their 50th Anniversary.
Jim will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 56 years, Abby; children, Elizabeth (Peter) Buss, Rebecca (Yamil) Arbaje, James I. (Bridget), Paul A. (Diane), and John J. (Lisa); grandchildren, Jack, Howard, and Fiona Statz, Sarah, Paul, and James Arbaje, Katherine and Michael Buss, Justin and Olivia Zuhlke, and Ian and Owen Statz; one great grandchild, Mateo Trujillo; and sisters-in-law, Joanne Statz and Elaine Statz.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, John V. "Jack" and Charles Statz and granddaughters, Alexandria Statz and Ellen Statz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison, Thursday, June 14, 2018, at 11 a.m., with Msgr. Kenneth J. Fiedler presiding. Family will greet friends at church one hour prior to Mass. A reception will follow. Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Catholic Multicultural Center or St. Vincent de Paul Society.
