FITCHBURG - James A. Maynard, age 73, passed away on Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Agrace HospiceCare with his wife at his side. He was born July 18, 1940 in Madison, the son of Lucille I. (Heffel) and Earl J. Maynard. Jim married Mary K. (Hansen) on October 21, 1972. They shared a deep and abiding love for one another.
Jim served in the Wisconsin Air National guard and enjoyed a fulfilling 40 year career with the U.W. Dept. of Meteorology and primarily the U.W. Space Science and Engineering Center. More importantly, Jim was a kind, gentle, contented, soft-spoken man. He loved his family, home, nature, aviation and had a lifelong thirst for knowledge about nearly everything. He never stopped learning. Jim was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughter Jennifer (Steven) Maldonado and granddaughter, Anna Viola, Gilbert, AZ; sister and brother-in-law, Jane and Tom Shaughnessy, Belleville; nieces, Kelly Shaughnessy, Madison and Kathleen (Jason) Danielson, Verona; and nephew Tom (Pam) Shaughnessy, New Glarus. He is also survived by a special cousin, Janice (Robert) Terrill, Mineral Pt.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Julianne Maynard; loving mother-in-law, Vi Hansen; and his companions, Muffin and Sophie.
Our heartfelt appreciation goes to Dr. Kim Kinsley and the staff at Agrace HospiceCare for their loving and compassionate care. We also thank a few special friends who gave their time, support and love to the family during the past months.
If desired, memorials are suggested to the Dane County Humane Society, Agrace HospiceCare or the Salvation Army.
The family will have a private blessing at the time of interment at Forest Hill Cemetery.
