James "Jim" L. Brooks

James “Jim” L. Brooks, age 82, passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Stoughton on the night of December 12, 2025.

Jim was born in Beaver Dam, WI on September 12, 1943, as one of seven children of Milton and Lorraine (née Wagner) Brooks. He spent his childhood helping on the family farm before enlisting in the Navy at 19. He met the love of his life, Jane Greshay, during their high school years before going on to marry her on May 30, 1964, when he was on shore leave. They raised four children together - Linda, Michael, Scott and Travis - while traveling across the United States during Jim’s time in the Navy. Jim was sharp - when you played cards with him or met him for breakfast, you had to bring your A game. Jim loved his family, most especially his grandkids. He was incredibly handy - fixing cars, home brewing wine, woodworking projects, doing repairs around the house. Jim and Jane often could be found at church and at breakfast. His wit, charm, and opinions will be truly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Lorraine; his brother, Jerry; his sister, Ann and his son, Michael. He leaves behind his wife, Jane; his siblings Elaine, Kay, Pat and Jean; children Linda, Scott and Travis; and grandchildren Alexander, Abigail, Tristin, Allegra and Bronson. He will be missed by his many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at ST. PIUS X CATHOLIC CHURCH with Fr. David Timmerman presiding. A luncheon will follow the funeral service on Tuesday. Visitation will be Monday, December 22, 2025, from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM at Cress Funeral Home, 201 Bue St., Deerfield from 9:00 AM until the service at the church on Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s or to a charity of your choice.
