Stoughton- James T. Hutchins “Hutch”, age 77, passed away on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg. He was born in Madison on June 29, 1946, the son of John and Evelyn Hutchins. Hutch graduated from Madison Central High School. He attended UW Madison and graduated from the University of Texas with a B.S. in biology.
Hutch was drafted into the US Air Force and served his country honorably as a Medic in Alaska. While working at the NCO club on base in Texas, he met the love of his life Sharon Gray. On August 22, 1970 they were united in marriage. Together they enjoyed living in the mountains of New Mexico at Angel Fire. In 1975, they moved to the Madison area and purchased their beloved farm where they raised pigs, much to the dismay of their neighbors.
Hutch worked for Dane County Cytology Lab for several years. Along with his son, Will, they started Hutchins Overhead Garage Door. Hutch was an avid hunter, UW Badger fan and Packer fan. He loved pre-civil war rendezvous camping and spending time with his beloved springer spaniel dogs.
Hutch is survived by his daughter, Ginger (Craig) Borgrud; son, Will Hutchins; three grandchildren, Julia Borgrud, Gabriella and William Hutchins; sister, Nancy Thompson; brother Ed (Gwen) Hutchins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; siblings, John Hutchins Jr. and an infant sister; and nephew, Kevin Thompson.
