MADISON- James M. Higgason, 91, passed away Friday, July 18, 2014, at St. Mary's Care Center in Madison, WI. He was born December 24, 1922 down on the farm in Milan, IN, the son of John and Mattie (Mullikin) Higgason. He married O. Lucille (Frank) Higgason on January 3, 1945 during a three day pass from the Army Air Corps. He served his country from January 1943 until April 1946. She preceded him in death on August 28, 2012. They were married for 67 years.
Survivors include son Craig (Barb) Higgason of Peachtree City, GA , and daughter Janet (Paul) Varoni of Manistique, MI, grandchildren Laura Higgason, Jason (Nichole) Varoni, Abram (Marisa) Varoni, Caleb (Tara) Varoni, and Benjamin (Michelle) Varoni; great grandchildren Katelynn, Carley, and Hope Varoni, Graci, Abram and Samuel Varoni, and Bella and Layla Varoni.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and two brothers, Robert Elliott and Elmo Elliott and an infant daughter of Paul and Jan Varoni.
Jim was an insurance underwriter, ending his career at General Casualty Insurance Co. Jim and Lu loved to travel, going to Europe two different times and to many places here in the United States. Jim loved wood working and crafted many pieces of furniture. He also loved making stained glass pieces, which Jim and Lu did together. They also loved to watch the beautiful songbirds. He was a devoted husband.
James and Lucille were members of First Baptist Church of Madison and held many board positions there over the years.
A memorial service will be held at ST. MARY'S CARE CENTER, 3401 Maple Grove Road, Madison on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at 11:30am. A private burial will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
