James Dolister

MADISON-James "Jim" Dolister, age 78, died peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2017. Jim was a kind gentleman who treated others with respect. He listened more than he talked and valued his personal and professional relationships. Jim had a banking career that spanned more than 50 years. At age 56, he founded Capitol Bank and served as President, CEO and Chairman, and as Chairman through this year.

He enjoyed time with family, golf, jazz and new cars (which he kept immaculate). He was married to his wife Sandy for 33 years, and they shared many interests, including the outdoors, long walks and time at home together. He also appreciated Sandy's home cooking, socializing and taking care of others. From a young age, he was a dapper dresser, and that continued throughout his life. He served on multiple not-for-profit Boards, including a long tenure with Energy Services, Inc. (Keep Wisconsin Warm/Cool Fund). He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, unassuming leadership and quiet determination.

Jim is survived by his wife Sandy; sons Mike (Tara) and Brian Dolister; siblings John (Jill) and Joe Dolister (Karen Hutton) and Mary (Jacob) Klam; and grandsons Eric and Jack Dolister. He is further survived by beloved members of Sandy's family the Schims, Turners, Murphys and more, and many dear and treasured friends.

Jim had a New Year's Eve diagnosis of acute leukemia from which he bravely fought for more than four months. His family is grateful for kind and compassionate care from the UW, Agrace HospiceCare and for those who generously donate blood products so others can live.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison, Wisconsin 53717 on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 3:00 PM with Father Bart Timmerman presiding. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. until time of mass at the church. A celebration of life will follow the mass from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Nakoma Golf Club, 4145 Country Club Road, Madison, WI 53711.
