Jacob Gustafson

July 4, 1997 — March 30, 2018

Madison - Our son, Jacob Russell Gustafson, age 20, was born on the 4th of July, and died Friday, March 30, 2018, while on a study abroad program in Germany. He was an honor student at Grinnell College. He was working to become a psychologist, and was celebrating news of being accepted to a summer psychology position at the Mayo Clinic. He was smart, strong and kind.

His recent travels in Europe were nothing less than joyous. He had planned to visit Roveredo in Piano, Italy this weekend, where he lived for three years as a child. Jack had a tremendous smile, loved all those he knew, and all were better for knowing him.

Jack is survived by his loving parents, Dan and Michelle Gustafson, and his wonderful brothers, William and Ben, of Madison. He also dearly loved his aunts Cynthia and Debbie and their families, as well as his grandparents Barry and Fern Wolk, and Margie and John Gustafson. Jack has many dear friends and extended family who love him and will miss him dearly.

Dr. and Mrs. Gustafson welcome all those whose lives have been touched by their family to attend Jack's funeral on Monday, April 9 at 1pm, at Temple Beth El at 2702 Arbor Drive, Madison. A brief interment at Sunset Memory Gardens will follow. Addresses and directions will be provided at Temple Beth El.

The family will sit shiva on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the home from 5-8, and recite Yitzkor at 7pm.

Jack loved throwing. He threw discus and shotput with track and field, and he threw clay in the ceramics workshop at James Madison Memorial High School. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the throwing team in track and field, or the ceramics department at James Madison Memorial High School 201 S. Gammon Rd, Madison. Donations can also be made to the Larry Kohn Chair of Jewish Learning Fund of Temple Beth El, 2702 Arbor Drive, Madison. Finally, donations may be made to the Jack Gustafson Memorial Fund at the Alicia Ashman branch of the Madison Public Library, 733 N. High Point Road, Madison.
