Jack L. Peat

Jack L. Peat (69) died peacefully at his home on September 7, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. Jack was born on August 25, 1956 to Ray and Betty (Gaby) Peat in Madison. He is survived by his loving wife Mary (Hodges) Peat, two sons Ryan Peat, and Matthew Peat (wife Abbie Peat), his mother Betty Peat, three sisters Deb Chadwick, Sandy Peat, Cindy Albright (husband Tom Albright), and his grandson Mason Peat. He is preceded in death by his father Ray, son Steven Peat, sister Cheryl Peat, brother-in-law Bob Chadwick, and several aunts and uncles. Jack served in the Navy for four years. He worked at Madison Silos, Madison Dairy, Schop’s Ice Cream, and Menards. Jack loved being outdoors and had multiple outdoor hobbies including fishing, hunting, canoeing, and camping. To many, Jack may seem quiet or even unassuming, but Jack had a strong awareness of when to be quiet and he exemplified the skill of listening more than talking. Jack led by example when he taught his family and friends to be kind, helpful, and respectful. He welcomed everyone into his life and taught his children to act the same way. When he wasn’t hunting, fishing, or enjoying being outdoors you could catch Jack watching the Packers game, watching an over-the-top action movie, or listening to music. Jack had seen numerous bands and shows throughout his life and could mention in many conversations where he had seen some band in an obscure neighborhood bar before the band made it big. With a strong sense of humor, Jack encouraged people around him to have a laugh often and laugh hard. He was a family man at heart. Jack loved his wife and children and enjoyed spending time with his family. He exemplified and modeled what a good husband looks like to his sons and truly believed in supporting his wife and standing by her side through thick and thin.
