Madison-Irvin George Kampen, age 89, passed away on August 24, 2008 at Meriter Hospital. Â He was born on June 4, 1919 at North Leeds, Wisconsin to George and Lena (Wendt) Kampen. Â He graduated from Poynette High School, then joined the U.S. Air Force in World War II and served in the South Pacific in Guam and Saipan. Â He was married to Marie Huckaby on March 7, 1945 in Monroe, La. Â He was employed with Oscar Mayer for 30 years as Supervisor of Manufacturing having retired at age 62. Â He and his wife lived in Middleton for many years where he was a member of Middleton Sertoma Club, Nakoma Country Club, St. Luke's Lutheran Church and served as church treasurer. Â He is survived by his wife, Marie, two daughters, Dr. Julie (John) Mitby, Madison and Susan Nifenecker (Gene) Amityville, New York; 5 grandchildren, Jana Mitby, Atlanta; Jenna Mitby, Boston, Mass; Gene II, Andrew, Mitchell Nifenecker, Long Island, New York; 3 great-grandchildren, Gene III, Brian Nifenecker, Ashley Bell, all of Long Island, New York. Â He was preceded in death by his parents, Sisters Minerva Stewart, Lucille Engeseth; brothers Vernon, Herbert and Donald Kampen and numerous nieces and nephews. Â There will be no services or visitation. Â At his request he will be cremated. Â Memorials made for him may be sent to the Oakwood Village West, Madison or the Wisconsin Memorial Fund.
