Irma Mcfee

June 15, 1915 — June 7, 2014

Madison- Only one week shy of her 99th birthday Irma McFee died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, June 7, 2014. Born Irma Frank, daughter of Roy and Belle Frank, in Blanchardville, Irma was one of the three "Frank Girls": Irma, Lu and Gladys. They lived on a farm, worked hard and played hard--Oh, those dances in Monroe! Irma attended the UW-Madison for two years, graduated from Madison Business College, then began her long career as an Executive Secretary. She met Frank Iverson in the early 1940's and they were married in June 1943. A daughter, Cheryl, was born July 26, 1944, just four days before Frank, Bronze Star recipient, was killed in France during WWII. In 1952 Irma married John McFee. Together they had three children, Jean, Pat and Doug. The family lived for over 60 years on Hilldale Court. The house was always a beehive of activity with friends of parents and kids in and out. Irma always had the coffee pot on and there was always an extra place at the table. Friday nights were reserved for the "Fish Fry Group" of friends. After 39 years of working at WI Bell, Irma retired. Once John retired they enjoyed driving the back roads of WI, stopping at every promising garage sale and of course for pie and coffee. The house was full of many treasures that John couldn't resist and Irma wished he could! Irma was an active member of the WI Bell Pioneers and was always up for an adventure. She is survived by her three children, Cheryl Iverson, Pat Gehler and Doug (Heidi) McFee; three grandchildren, Christopher Gehler and Max and Belle McFee; sister, Gladys Hammel; and nieces and nephews. Irma was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; daughter, Jean; and sister, Lu Higgason. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Cress Funeral Home, 5801 Highway 51, McFarland. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 AM until the time of services Tuesday. Memorials may be made to the Pioneers, c/o Lois Grans, 8541 Greenway Blvd., Apt. 109, Middleton, WI, 53562. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Jane Kessenich and Ann Stormer, and to the staff of Oak Park Place, for their friendship and care of Irma.
