Irene Sorkness

MADISON - Irene B. Sorkness, age 97, passed away on Wednesday April 8, 2015 in Madison. She was born August 2, 1917 in Dunn County, WI. to the late Ernest and Elizabeth (Gardner) Blanchard. Irene was a graduate of UW Milwaukee with a Master's Degree in Education, and worked for many years in the Recreation Department in the Milwaukee School System. She lived in Menomonie from 1917 - 1942, Milwaukee from 1942 - 2008 and Madison from 2008 - 2015. Irene was active with singing in the Bethany-Calvary United Methodist Church, and was an active member of the Sons of Norway in Milwaukee. She married Delno Sorkness on October 24 1942, and after he preceded her in death in 1998 she married Norris L. Nepstad on April 11, 1992, and he also has passed away in 2006.
Irene is survived by her son Ronald (Christine) Sorkness and daughter Karen Sorkness both of Madison. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, and a sister Margaret Ford.
Graveside services will be held at a later date.
