Schuette, Irene
Middleton-Irene H. Schuette, age 95, passed away on Saturday, October 22, at Agrace HospiceCare. She was born on March 27, 1921 in Fall River, WI to Carl & Meta (Dieckhoff) Hemling. She was raised in Columbus, WI where she earned a letter for her athletic endeavors at Columbus High School. She was the first female employee at the City of Madison Streets Department and was Secretary to 3 different Street Commissioners over a 27 year career. She owned, managed, and lived in an 8 unit apartment building before retiring to her condo in Middleton where she lived independently for the last 17 years.
She was a pioneer in many ways and always did it her way. She enjoyed watching the Packers and Badgers on TV and we are still looking for all the prizes she won on Wheel of Fortune, Price Is Right, and other quiz shows.
Irene is survived by her sons Dan (Sandy) Schuette, Paul Stone, grandchildren Derek (Kim) Schuette of Sun Prairie and Danita (Gary) Lehnherr of Mc Farland and her great-grandchildren Thomas & Katherine Schuette and Carson & Rowan Lehnherr. She was preceded in death by her parents and 3 brothers Milton (Swede) Hemling, Harold Hemling, and Gerald Wohlfeil.
A private burial with brief ceremony was held at the Hillside Cemetery in Columbus, WI on October 28 with her immediate family in attendance. She was buried next to her parents. Dinner followed with many memories shared. Irene enjoyed family gatherings and watching the young ones grow and develop. Our "granny" will be sorely missed. She was "one of a kind".
Please share your memories.
