Madison / Stoughton - Idell "Betty" Stanek, age 92, died after a very brief illness on Tuesday, May 7, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was born on June 21, 1920 to Otmar and Emma Merklein in Madison. Betty was united in marriage to Edward J. Stanek for 56 years, and he preceded her in death in 1996. She worked for 32 years as a directory assistant operator for the telephone company, and was a member of the Pioneers. Betty was a member at St. Raphael Cathedral Parish. She was an avid Badger fan and shopper, she and her husband enjoyed golfing, and she once had a hole in one at Glenway. Betty was an old 4th Warder. She was always a sweet, caring and kind person. Betty is survived by two sons, James (Pamela) of Newport, Rhode Island and Joseph (Carol) of McFarland; her grandchildren, Ginny (Thomas) Hoven of Oregon, Amy (Troy) Enloe of Verona, Eben Horton of Newport, Rhode Island and Lauren Stanek of Newport, Rhode Island; her six great-grandchildren; a brother, Robert of Houston, Texas; a special sister-in-law, Elizabeth "Betty" Stanek; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Thomas; and her brothers, Al and Ray. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 11, 2013 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison with a visitation from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will follow at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to National MS Society, PO Box 4527, New York, NY 10163; Dane County Humane Society, 5132 Voges Road, Madison, WI 53718; Agrace HospiceCare Inc., 5395 E.
