MADISON
Ida Kate Seiling, 94, of Madison Wisconsin, passed away quietly and with a smile, on the evening of July 13th, at her home with her family close by.
She was born Ida Kate Hauge on March 10, 1922, in Bergen, Norway. In 1930 she emigrated with her parents and siblings to the United States and Madison, but she always kept a strong connection to Norway and visited there often throughout her life.
Kate, as she came to be known, studied nursing in Chicago and was a lifelong R.N. at University Hospital, where she was highly respected for her skills as well as her deep commitment to her work.
She first met her beloved Bob Seiling during their time together at Madison East High School, and during the years that followed these two developed a deep bond of love and mutual respect. They were married in Madison in September 13, 1947 and settled to raise their family in the Midvale neighborhood, where they lived out their entire lives, and where many wonderful memories were made.
She is survived by her children: Eric (Joann) Seiling, Kristin (Dick Lain) Seiling, and Lisa (Sato) Yayla; and she was a very proud bestemor to Taylor (Adrienne) Seiling, Christian Wichinski, Dr. Hatice Yayla, and Ebru Yayla.
Special to Kate were her nieces and her nephews: the Hauge girls (Kristi, Andrea and Jackie) and the Emanuelsen kids (Pete, Kathy, and Kirk).
Kate was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, on July 14, 1991; by her parents, Olaf Hauge and Kristi Kleppe; by her siblings Laura (Hank) Emanuelsen, Arnold Hauge, and Olaf (Veronica) Hauge; and by Bob's brother Lloyd (Virginia) Seiling. Also passing earlier were her faithful companions Hans Rufus I and Hans Rufus II.
The family wishes to thank Agrace Hospice for their outstanding care, in particular to Teri and Michelle and all of the CNA staff. Thanks also to Gail Gaustad GNP and Debra Boushea MD for their excellent care and support. Deep thanks also go to Walt and Pat Sundstrom, and a special note of gratitude goes to the group known as "Kate's People": Jackie, Kristin, Nate, Carolyn and Val.
The family also wishes to deeply thank one of their own, Mr. Christian Wichinski, who made an extended stay at his bestemor's side when she needed him most, as she wound down this long and remarkable life.
In keeping with Kate's wishes, there will be no service. There will be a small gathering at a later time. In tribute to Kate's memory, contributions can be made to organizations benefiting veterans, the Humane Society, or to any organization that benefits people in need. This proud, lifelong liberal (who never missed a vote in her life) would also encourage contributions to Russ Feingold for Senate and to Hillary Clinton for president.
Thank you, Mom, for everything. You are deeply loved and will be missed.
