It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Huilian Zhang on August 22, 2023 at the age of 85. A devoted husband, father, and accomplished electrical computer engineer, his legacy lives on through his beloved wife Qihui Zuo and daughter Stephanie Zhang (Christopher Anecelle).
Born in Beijing, China, Huilian Zhang embarked on a remarkable journey to the US over 30 years ago, brought dedication and passion to the University of Science and Technology of China, University of Wisconsin Madison in the US, and GBC corporation in the electrical computer engineering field. His proudest moments were constructing a low-cost filmless radiographic system that can perform all the functions required of a field hospital during his years in Department of Medical Physics at UW-Madison with his good friend Dr. Melvin P. Siedband. Huilian has also worked on large scale project supporting Large Hadron Collider at CERN in Switzerland in the Physical Sciences Lab (PSL). Beyond his professional achievements, Huilian Zhang warmed the hearts of neighbors with his infectious laughter and frequent neighborhood strolls. Huilian enjoyed cuisines from all parts of the world and especially ice cream.
A private gathering will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at his home for family and close friends to celebrate Huilian's life and honor his memories. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations towards a commemorative tree in the Longenecker Garden at University of Wisconsin-Madison Arboretum, reflecting Huilian's love of nature and his adopted home in Wisconsin.
Rest in peace, Huilian Zhang
