Hugo Eugene Indra

Hugo Indra, age 95, died on Sunday, January 16, 2011 at Oregon Manor Nursing Home in Oregon, Wisconsin.   He was born on April 2, 1915 in Watertown, to Henry and Magdalen (Koester) Indra.   Hugo attended barber college in Milwaukee, completed his apprenticeship in New London, and returned to Watertown to meet the love of his life.   Hugo married his hometown sweetheart Lucy and then moved to Madison.   He barbered on the Capital Square for 10 years before opening his own shop on the West Side of Madison in 1955.   He loved barbering so much; he opened and additional part-time shop in McFarland working several nights a week.   His loyalty to customers even included making house calls.   He retired at the age of 92 years, ending an astonishing career of 68 years.   Hugo was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church.   He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.   He enjoyed the KC bowling league serving as secretary for over 30 years.   He is survived by his sister Lucille Trachte; his brother Paul; his four children, Gloria Hanson, Diane (Richard) Thornton, Marla (Larry) Carreon, and Tim (Kathy) Indra; ten grandchildren, and eighteen great-grandchildren.   Hugo was preceded in death by his wife Lucy of 64 years; his brother Frances; and two sisters, Loretta Richter and Virginia Ganser.   A visitation will be held from 4 until 7pm on Friday, January 21, 2011 at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, January 22, 2011 at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Own Dr., with visitation from 10 am until the time of Mass at the church.   Our family would like to thank the staff of Oregon Manor Nursing Home for their loving care of our father.
