MADISON- Hubert (Hugh) G. Ganser, age 97, died on January 15, 2015 at Agrace HospiceCare in Fitchburg.
He was born on June 27, 1917 near Lodi, Wis, the son of Ernest N. and Clara Sarah (Boehmer) Ganser. He graduated from Lodi High School and attended US Signal Corp and Army Air Corps schools of electronics radar design and operation. He married Georgiann Mary Brejcha on May 17, 1941 at St. Rapheals Cathedral in Madison, WI; they celebrated 73 wedding anniversaries together. After enlisting and studying ground radar operations in the Signal Corp he was transferred to the Army Air Corps (Air Force) where he became an instructor of airborne radar mechanics and operation at Boca Raton Field in Florida. He was involved in the development and teaching of radar countermeasures throughout World War II. He was discharged December 17, 1945 with the rank of Sergeant. He joined his father in the family business, Ganser Home Improvement Co. and was a member of the Madison Area Builders Association. He was an avid reader and world traveler. He and his wife traveled throughout the United States and over sixty foreign countries. He was a charter member of The Wisconsin Friendship Force and served as its President for two years and director of exchanges to Columbia and to Czechoslovakia. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #4527 and Wm. P. O'Conner 4th Degree Assembly #1200 and St. Patricks Church in Lodi.
He is survived by his eight children; Allen (Connie) of Boston, MA, Gene of Costa Rica, Dennis (Cheryl) of Hartford, WI., Madelyn Ganser of Albuquerque, NM, Kathleen Shea of New Berlin, WI, Neal (Jean) of Bozeman, MT, Duane of Kansas City, MO, Dale (Marie) of Sauk City, WI; twenty-five grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Georgiann; his great grandson, Blaze Thomas; his parents; his brother, Dr. Leonard Ganser and his sister-in-law, Betty (Evans) Ganser.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison, on Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. with Msgr. Kenneth J. Fiedler presiding. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. A visitation will be held at church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the mass.
