Herbert James "Jim" Crawford of Sun Prairie, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, August 09, 2013. He was born in Monroe, WI, on March 4, 1931, the son of James and Elizabeth Crawford. He was raised by his grandparents, Jake and Mary Isabelle and graduated from Monroe High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin but was recalled to active duty in the U.S. Airforce at the start of the Korean War. He served with the 126th Fighter Squadron and the 4556 Fighter Pilot Training Group. He was united in marriage to Doris (Goecke) Crawford on June 29, 1950.
Herb founded Crawford Construction and Crawford Real Estate, retiring in 1995. He was a member of the Wisconsin Realtors Assoc., a lifetime member and past commander of the American Legion Post 333, Sun Prairie, a past member and Chef de Train of Dane County Voiture 683 - 40 et 8, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Past Commanders Club. He also served on the Sun Prairie City Council and was active in local and state government. Herb and Doris had a second home in Valley View Estates, Mission, TX, where they spent the winters with many wonderful friends.
Herb is survived by his wife, Doris; children: John (Deb), Peg (Don) Hanson, Michael, and Susan Cronkrite and their families; two brothers-in-law, Floyd (Margaret) Goecke and Glenn (Linda) Goecke; also, nieces, nephews, and friends. Herb was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
Per Herbs wishes, there will be no funeral. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Community Room of Sunwood Apartments, 1750 Linnerud Drive, Sun Prairie, on Saturday, August 24, from 10 a.m. until 12 Noon.
