Helen P. Schmidt, age 97, of Waunakee died on Monday July 21, 2014 at UW Hospitals in Madison. She was born in Stoughton on Nov. 12, 1916, to Joseph and Emma( Viken) Pliner. She married Thomas Schmidt and he preceded her in death in 1993. Helen and Tom lived for many years in Madison and moved to Waunakee in 1993. Helen enjoyed playing golf and bridge. She was an avid reader, sewed, knitted and loved to work on crossword puzzles. Helen was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church in Waunakee.
Survivors include her two daughters, Jean Schmidt Tieche and Christan (Jim) Steffenhagen; four grandchildren, Christopher (Lori) Tieche, Tyler (Maggy) Tieche, Mark (Kim) Steffenhagen, Lindsay(Brandon) Volley; four great-grandchildren, William, Georgia, Addison, and Joseph. Helen is also survived by her brother, Robert Pliner of McHenry, Ill. and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband and one brother, Howard Pliner.
Funeral services will be held on Monday July 28, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at the FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH, 5763 County Road Q, Waunakee. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services. Entombment will take place at 3:00 p.m. at Roselawn Memorial Park in Madison.
