Hazel Kingston

Hazel Virginia Kingston, age 89, of Madison, passed away peacefully, June 22, 2014 at Chamomile Assisted Living. The oldest of 3 children, Hazel was born in California, where she met and married Alan W. Kingston. Early in their marriage Hazel was a high school teacher before becoming a homemaker, raising 5 boys. Together, they enjoyed family outings, as well as travelling. They toured Europe, and World War II sites, including the 50th anniversary of the D-Day Invasion at Normandy. In 1986 they moved to Florida where Hazel loved the warm weather and citrus trees. In 2004, after Alan's passing, she moved back to Madison to be closer to family.
Hazel loved to read, and enjoyed playing tennis well into her 70s. She is remembered fondly as a wonderful mother who took great pride in attending countless ball games in support of her sons, never missing a contest. No one ever had an unkind word to say about Hazel, who made friends easily wherever she was.
Mrs. Kingston is survived by her sons: Philip (Kathie), Richard (Mary), John (Beth), Robert (Colleen), and Mark (Linda); as well as her grandchildren: Kate (Matt) Woerpel, Seth (Jill) Kingston, Matt (Larisa) Kingston, Brett Kingston, Kyle (Samantha) Kingston, Amanda (Jack) Kingston-Beatle, Rebecca Kingston, Carolyn Kingston, Laura (Justin) Kroll, Ashley Kingston, James Kingston, and Thomas Kingston; and, 7 great-grandchildren: Finn, Graham, Sigourney, Hazel, Misha, Nia, and Jack. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Alan; her parents; and her sister, Beverly Taylor.
Hazel spent the last 4 years of her life at Chamomile Assisted Living where she is remembered as a friendly neighbor with a love for people. The Kingston Family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to Chamomile for the compassionate care extended to Hazel.
A Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 27, 2014 at 2 pm at Cress Funeral Home, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison. Visitation will begin at 1 pm until the time of service. Interment will be at Sunset Memory Gardens.
