MIDDLETON- Hazel Inez Grota, age 102, died on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Attic Angel Place surrounded by her family. She was born on December 25, 1913 in Stoughton, the daughter of Henrik Bjercke and Ingeborg Olsdtr Vold. She was a baptized and confirmed member of the First Lutheran Church of Stoughton.
Hazel married Clifford Grota on January 24, 1968 in Madison. They resided in Middleton all their married life. Prior to her marriage, she worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Madison for 31 years, retiring in 1968. Hazel and Clifford were active members of the St. Maria Goretti parish and helped with their fund raisers by making many craft items.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband; her parents; brother, Edward (Emma); sister, Agnes (Robert Pharo) Stephens Pharo; nieces, Marion (Cliff) Weston, Norma (Norbert) Reindl, Karen Bjerke; nephews, James (Dorothy), Donald, Richard Larson, and James Kitson; son-in-law, Ralph Lonergan; and granddaughter, Rebecca Boisen.
Survivors include Clifford's three daughters, Janet Lonergan of Lodi, Elaine Emmerich of Jacksonville, FL, and Diane Katalenich of Madison; ten grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her nieces, Jean Kitson of Stoughton and Betty Larson of Dodgeville; nephew David Bjerke of Stoughton; and other family members.
The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Attic Angels Place for their loving care of Hazel for the past ten years.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Attic Angels Employee Fund, 8301 Old Sauk Road Road, Middleton, WI 53562.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 8, 2016 at Attic Angel Place, 2nd floor dining room, 8301 Old Sauk Road, Middleton, WI 53562. A private burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Stoughton.
