Harry Spray Jr.

Madison - Harry M. Spray, Jr. died November 02, 2012 at age 86. He was the son of Harry M. and Emma (Bergemann) Spray. A lifelong resident of Madison, he grew up on South Brooks Street, raised his family in Hill Farms and retired in Arbor Hills. He was saddened by the destruction of his home and neighborhood by St Mary's hospital. So much so, he retrieved his house # and mailbox, that was still original, while the house was under demolition.

He was a graduate of West High School and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He worked for the State of Wisconsin-Dept. of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection for 38 years.

He is preceded in death by both of his wives. He married Rose (May) in 1956 and had four children, Ron, Diane, Brian and Tom. His children survive him, along with 6 grandsons to carry on the Spray name. They are Shawn, Brandon, Matthew, James, Trevor and Taylor. After being widowed he married Dolores Wiskow in 1989. He met both of his wives the same way. He was an Arthur Murray student from his youth, which gave him the moves to meet his wives at dances. Ballroom dancing was one of his passions. Besides dancing to music, he wanted to be part of that sound he loved by playing music. He learned to play the alto saxophone at age 70.

His other interests included a lifetime love of airplanes. He was a RC modeler, and a member of MARCS (Madison Area Radio Control Society). Before fatherhood took over his time, he was a pilot and liked to fly to Canada with his father and friends for fishing. He also took his young family for rides. He was a WWII history buff and was well read on the subject as evident in his library.

He was a longtime golfer and belonged to a senior league. Also, he was a member of the Madison West YMCA where he played senior volleyball for years. He tapped into his graphic artist talent in his senior years through painting.

A celebration of his life will include his artwork and will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Ave. Madison, on Sunday, November 4, 2012, from 2-4 p.m.
