Harry Schmidt

December 5, 1925 — July 26, 2015

MADISON- Harry J. Schmidt went to be with his Lord the morning of Sunday July 26th, 2015 at the age of 89. Husband of 52 years to the late Anne (Placktis) Schmidt, and father of 10, he was cherished by all who knew him. Harry was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Harry and Grace (McBride) Schmidt. He was married to Anne on January 13, 1951 in Canada. Harry proudly served in the United States Navy as a radar specialist in the Pacific arena from 1943-1946. He earned his diploma and CPA from Villanova University, where he also ran varsity track, and then went on to earn his law degree from LaSalle University in Philadelphia. He served several years as the State Budget Director for Pennsylvania as well as Wisconsin. Harry enjoyed spending time with his family, especially grandchildren and great grandchildren. While many grandkids teach their grandparents about technology, we have fond memories of Harry teaching his grandchildren about the early Atari computer. He also liked to drive from state to state and visit his children however, he made us laugh when he'd turn around before getting to Chicago and return home saying he missed his wife Anne. He was also an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching basketball, football and golf. He passed down his love for music, playing the piano, art, and his strong faith in Christ. He will forever be remembered as a charming man with a boundless vocabulary who loved his family dearly. He is survived by his 10 children: Katherine (Domenick) Pendino, Rose (Bryan) Wierwill, Harry (Elayne Treese) Schmidt, Fred Schmidt, George (Jackie) Schmidt, David (Mary) Schmidt, John (Carol) Schmidt, Grace Ann (Robert) Shea, Paul Schmidt and Antoinette (Dana) Ball; as well as 15 grandchildren Kristin, Kelly, Benjamin, Kate, Erik, Michael, Megan, Caitlin, Grace, Ally, Jacob, Abigail, Ryan, Emily and Frances; and 6 great-grandchildren. He will also be missed by his dear friend of many years, Nancy Beyler.
Visitation will be held 11-12:00 PM (noon) at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 401 S. Owen Dr., Madison, WI 53711 on Friday August 14th, 2015 with a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 12:00 PM.
