Harry Rouse Sr.

December 23, 1916 — July 20, 2013

Madison, WI/Savoy, IL - Harry R. Rouse Sr., age 96, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at his son's home in Savoy, IL. He was born December 23, 1916 in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the son of John and Elizabeth (Gertsch) Rouse. On June 10, 1939, Harry was united in marriage to June Luedeke in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He served in the Navy, aboard the USS CAPPS, during WWII.

After WWll, Harry came home and lived the American dream, building a home, family, and career. Harry worked in the grocery business all his life, from Oshkosh, to Rockford, to Madison, from Piggly Wiggly to Eagle Foods, delivery man to store manager to district supervisor. Harry was loyal and a hard worker in all areas. He loved his wife, his family, his friends, most of all his GOD. His door was always open, and there was always a meal to share.

Harry is survived by his children, Harry (Hilary) Rouse Jr. of Savoy, IL and Marilyn (Ronald) Thuener of Shingle Springs, CA; two grandchildren, Michelle Rouse and Ashley (Michael) Hetherington; two great grandchildren, Jonathon and Reagan; his sisters, Jane Hutchinson and Nancy Lenz; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, June, brothers, John, James and Harold Rouse and a sister, Lucy Nichols.

A visitation and funeral service will be held at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1021 Spaight Street, Madison, on Thursday, July 25th, with Reverend Dustin Krystowiak officiating. Visitation will be from 2pm to 4pm with the service following. Burial will be held Friday, July 26th, 11am at Lake View Memorial Cemetery in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

Harry and June were great supporters of the church and were passionate about helping young seminary students achieve their goal of becoming pastors. They established an endowment at Concordia Seminary, Mequon for this purpose. Over twenty young men have received scholarships from this endowment so far. Harry and June loved receiving letters and church newsletters from all over with the news of how GOD and the Love of our Lord Jesus Christ was impacting our world through these young men. Memorials may be made in memory of Harry to the Harry and June Rouse Endowment At Concordia University, Mequon, Wisconsin.
