Harriett Braith

January 30, 1925 — June 5, 2014

Madison - Harriett E. (Buergin) Braith, age 89, of Madison, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2014, at the Karmenta Center in Madison, from Lymphoma. She was born in Springfield, IL on January 30, 1925. After graduating from high school in 1942, she held a variety of jobs, from working in a shoe factory, social security office, to working in a torpedo plant in Chicago during WWII. She was a former data entry operator at Gisholt, then worked at American Family Insurance in the clerical & mail departments until her retirement in 1993. On September 2, 1950, she was united in marriage to Stanley J. Braith, of Madison.

In her retirement, she loved dining out and spending time with family. She also had fun with her friends doing water aerobics at the McFarland pool.

She is survived by her three children, Carl of Fitchburg; William of Madison, and Carolyn Hammons (fianc� Mike Niehoff) of Waunakee; grandson, Eric Hammons; and other friends and extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley, in 1972, and two grandchildren, Ryan & Skylar Hammons, in 1998.

A funeral service will be held at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3325 E. Washington Avenue, on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ken Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park in Monona. A visitation will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 9, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.

The family would like to thank the Northeast Family Medical Center for their exceptional care, especially Dr Louis Sanner, the lab, and Carrie in the pharmacy. They would also like to thank Dr Mark Reichelderfer at UW Digestive Health Center for his sense of humor and his compassionate care. Lastly, the family would like to thank Karmenta for their care of our mom in her final days.
