Harriet Bystricky

July 31, 1916 — January 5, 2015

Harriet G. Bystricky, age 98, passed away on Monday January 5, 2015 in Madison. She was born July 31, 1916 in Chicago, IL., and resided in Woodstock, IL. She was married to Joseph C. Bystricky for fifty-nine years.
For over fifty years, Harriet worked happily with Joseph in their apple orchard business in Woodstock, never ceasing in her strength and capacity to provide for her family. Harriet was a devout Catholic and, while she was able to do so, Harriet drove five miles into Woodstock to St. Mary's Church every morning to attend daily Mass. She was the core of our family, endlessly giving her time, energy and love to all of us, with little thought of herself. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten.
Although Harriet had little time for hobbies, she did much gardening, and loved to cook and bake. Christmas would find her baking between twenty and thirty varieties of cookies with Joseph!
Harriet lived the last four years of her life at Pine View Living, in Madison, under the watchful and loving care of the staff there.
Harriet is survived by her daughter Darlene Harper, grandchildren Joe Harper, Samantha Harper, Beth Papanek and Kelly Papanek, and niece Carol Rischow.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph C. Bystricky in 2007, her daughter Joanne Papenek in 2007.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday January 7, 2015 at OUR LADY QUEEN OF PEACE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 401 Owen Dr. with Msgr. Ken Fiedler presiding. A visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Wednesday at the church.
Harriet and Joseph donated eighteen acres of their prairie land in Woodstock to the Nature Conservancy; so, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the McHenry County Conservation District or The Nature Conservancy.
