Gyneth Schmale

Madison - Gyneth Carolee Schmale (Wakeman), age 97, was born in Marshall, Wisconsin, on Christmas Day in 1916. She died on September 4th, 2014.
A life-long teacher, Gen started her career in a one room school house in Oregon, Wisconsin and taught for many years at Crestwood and Shorewood Hills Elementary Schools. Gen loved her family. She was outgoing; she loved to be with people. She spent many winters in Florida and many summers in northern Wisconsin. Gen was a member of Eastern Star Melody Chapter 150, Daughters of the Nile, Azba, and First United Methodist Church.
Gen was preceded in death by her parents Marlon R. Wakeman and Ruby Wakeman (Deppe), her husband Conrad H. Stein, her husband Emil F. Schmale, and her sister Viola Krueger Hower.
She is survived by her sisters Corinne Wakeman and Marcia Kartman (Robert), her sons Jerry Stein (Joni) and Jim Schmale (Linda), her grandchildren, Sharel Stein Nelson (Dan), Angie Stein (Jan), and Stephanie Schmale Nelson (Drew) and great-grandchildren, Conrad, Riley, Clara Nelson and Emma Nelson.
The family extends its thanks to the staff at Agrace HospiceCare for the care and support they provided Gen and family during her stay.
Friends may call at the Cress Center (6021 University Ave, Madison WI) on Wednesday, September 10th from 10:30 a.m. until the time of Memorial Service at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Carly Kuntz presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shriner's Hospital for children or the First United Methodist Church in Madison.
