GREGORY BRUCE BADGER SR., 71 was born on December 26, 1950 to Genella Conner Badger and Charles A. Wilson in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Greg was raised in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Greg became a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where he accepted Christ as his Savior at an early age.
Greg received his formal education in Milwaukee Public Schools. He graduated from Rufus King High School in 1969. While attending high school he was known for his outstanding athletic abilities in basketball and football.
Greg furthered his education and athletic scholarship at the University of Wisconsin Whitewater, where he received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Occupational Safety and Health.
Greg was united in marriage to Ruthe E. (Martin) Badger in 1974 and relocated to Madison, Wisconsin. Their union was blessed with four children, Lobelia Ann (Libby), Genella Jeane, Gregory Bruce Jr., and Benjamin Wilson.
Greg worked for the State of Wisconsin for more than 30 years, where he retired from the Department of Workforce Development.
Greg was an avid Wisconsin Sports fan and especially enjoyed cheering on the Whitewater Warhawks, Badgers, Packers, Brewers, and Marquette Golden Eagles. He relished in ‘friendly’ banter with family and friends, and was known to engage rival sports fans in why their teams were inferior.
In addition to sports, Greg enjoyed, traveling, being outdoors, listening to music, talk radio, and was a self-described grill master. While his children didn’t know all those who crossed paths with him, they appreciate the countless stories that usually began with ‘I have a funny story about your dad’. He never met a stranger.
Greg departed this life on September 4, 2022. He was the youngest of three children and proceeded in death by his: Mother, Genella; Father, Charles; Wife, Ruthe Badger; and older brother Richard Badger.
Greg leaves to cherish his memory; his brother Nem Badger (Gulfport, MS); children Libby (Richard) Lee, Genella (Eric) Slater (Frisco, TX), Gregory Jr., Benjamin (Dallas, TX), five grandchildren Cierra, Savanna, Amaya, Mia, and Mason; niece Teri (Shaun) Ellzey, and nephew Richard M. (LaVerne) Badger, and host of great nieces and nephews; and brother in-law Ben Martin (Largo, FL).
