Grace Bloodgood

October 19, 1959 — February 2, 2015

Grace Matthews Bloodgood
10/19/59 - 2/2/15

Madison - When Grace was diagnosed with AML her medical staff began to refer to her journey as a war. Grace was a pacifist and didn't like these references, choosing rather to see her bad blood cells as poor unfortunate sheep that had lost their way. They only needed to be herded to the right place. It is with deep regret they never made it home.

Grace was a natural-born athlete and loved bicycling, softball & basketball. She was an avid bird watcher and could identify and mimic the songs of many different birds. This talent extended to her ability to relay stories, quote lines from movies or The Simpsons, and make it funnier than the original. Grace excelled at learning new languages (Her BA was in Spanish with a minor in Italian) and worked as a computer programmer and Project manager. Her last job was with the Spanish & Portuguese Department at UW. Her business cards said "Spanish Accountant...livin' the dream". She also loved bastardizing other languages and making up silly words like Poopadopolous and Mama-cheeta. She loved her animals SO very much and is survived by her babies Charlie, Sophia and Freddy. They remain with family including their number one champion, Joan Leffler, who for the past year has come twice a day to walk her beloved dogs. Gracie touched many lives and was a true friend to all who knew her. She passed away just shy of 30 years of sobriety in AA. Her memorial will be held on April 25th to commemorate this significant accomplishment.

She was preceded in death by her Father, Joseph Bloodgood; Step-Father, Ralph Hanson; and siblings Jane Tremblay and Joseph Bloodgood. Grace is survived by her Mother, Mary Peck Hanson, siblings, Mary Kyle (Marcia) Elliott, Kathleen (Stacey) Martin, Elizabeth (Steve Ferris) Bloodgood, and Theodore (Susan) Bloodgood; step-siblings Barb, Beth, Kathy and Tom; nephews Patrick Manning, Justin (Amy) Greenberg, and niece Amanda Manning.

Donations can be made to NAMI or Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
