Gottfried Schmid

May 25, 1909 — April 21, 2016

Stoughton- Gottfried Schmid, age 106, passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2016. He was born in the Verona area on May 25, 1909, the son of Gottfried and Anna Schmid. On October 23, 1951 he married Grace Bates in Peoria, IL. Gottfried worked as a Tool and Die maker until his retirement when he and Grace moved to Warrens, WI. Gottfried enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing card and was an avid bowler. He is survived by five children, Norm (Coco), Marv (Nikki), Arlene (Darrell) Ace, Ken (Judy), and Inez (Bob) Hougan; 16 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and brother, Robert Schmid. Gottfried was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Evelyn Schmid Frederickson; second wife, Grace; son, Donald (Eve); grandson, John Hougan; sister, Rose; and three brothers, Ernie, Walter, and Herman. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton. Burial will follow in Western Koshkonong Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon, following the burial, at the Stoughton American Legion. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of services Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Croix Hospice. A special thank you to the Stoughton Senior Center, especially Kelly for her care and patience. Please share your memories of Gottfried.
