Deerfield / Cottage Grove - Gordon Alexander Nesthus, age 98, passed away on Sunday, April 12, 2015 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 15, 1916 in Madison the son of Norman and Clara (Donstad) Nesthus.
Gordon served in the Army from 1941 till he was honorably discharged in 1945.
He met his wife Myrtle Lorraine Strand and they were married September 24, 1949 at West Koshkonong Lutheran Church. Celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary last year. They lived in Utica until moving to Deerfield and raising 2 children. Gordon was well known as a softball pitcher from 1937 - 1967, avid bowler, golfer, and horse shoe player. He retired from Oscar Meyer in 1979. But continued to work as a self employed painter. They moved to Cottage Grove in 2004.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by his wife Myrtle, daughter Kathy (Rusty) Lee, grandchildren Jeramy Wolf of Madison, Justin Lee of San Francisco, sisters; Doris Kulow of Lake Mills, Betty Pohlman of Deerfield, sister in-law Ruth Klein of Cambridge, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved cat "Buddy".
He was preceded in death by his parents, son Ken Nesthus, brothers; Robert, Sam, and John Nesthus, sister; Gene Peacock, and sister in-law Violet Sullivan.
A memorial service will be held at the Deerfield Lutheran Church, 206 S. Main St. Deerfield, WI., at 11 a.m. Saturday April 25, 2015. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service on Saturday. Friends and family are invited to a luncheon immediately following the service.
