Gordon Md Jr.

April 24, 1925 — November 18, 2017

Madison: Gordon (Scott) Davenport Jr., MD, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 18, 2017 at the age of 92.

Dr. Davenport was born in Utica, New York to Tess and Gordon Davenport. He completed his medical education and training at the University of Rochester. During that time he served 2 years in the U.S. Navy in Washington, D.C. In 1956 he came to Madison where he practiced and taught plastic surgery at the University of Wisconsin, Madison General (Meriter) and St. Mary's hospitals. After 25 years he became Medical Director at Meriter Hospital, retiring in 1989. He was the author of a popular column in the Capital Times newspaper called "Ask Dr. Davenport."

Scott had many interests outside of medicine. For over 30 years, with his wife, he was an antiques appraiser, dealer and educator in fine American period furniture and accessories. He so enjoyed the frequent trips to New England and the relationships he developed there, and could back a U-Haul truck with the best of them. His interest in history also led to extensive global travels, particularly to those countries with early cultures. Most important to him was his family, of which he was extremely proud.

Scott is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Marge; children Gordon III (Chip) and his wife Jeanne, Mark and his wife Cheri, and Debbie and her husband Stew Stender; grandchildren Gordon Bradley (Jenna), Andrea, Brian, Mike, Connor, Scott, Nick (Jenna) and Tess; and great grandson Danny. He is also survived by brothers Arnold and Terry (Bonnie) Davenport and close family friends Pat Meyerhofer and Rick Miyagawa.

A private burial will be held. A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Attic Angel Place Garden Room, 8301 Old Sauk Road, Middleton, WI, 53562. Remembrances at 11:45, with a luncheon to follow.
