Deerfield- Gladys E. Maly, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. She was born on the family farm in Deerfield on October 6, 1921, the daughter of Carl and Helga (Engelstad) Mikkelson. Gladys graduated from Deerfield High School and from Madison Business College. On May 4, 1946 she married Leonard Maly. Together they farmed in the Deerfield area for many years. Gladys worked as an accountant for the American Red Cross until her retirement in 1984. She was a devoted lifetime member of St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church. Gladys enjoyed bowling, playing cards, travelling and spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Kay (Harlan) Erdahl and Kurt (Debbie) Maly; five grandchildren, Brenda (Steve) Collins, Wendy (Pat) Hansen-Haines, Cortney (Dan) Hellmich, Kyle (Kimberly) Maly and Katy (Dan) Irmen; 15 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Hazel Mikkelson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leonard; granddaughter, Marsha Erdahl; two brothers, Morris and Gehard Mikkelson; and three sisters, Ruth Hoiby, Mildred Buege and Hazel Simonson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 4, 2013 at St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Church, 3494 Oak Park Road, Deerfield, with Rev. Dick Blomker officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Paul's Liberty Lutheran Cemetery. Friends and relatives are invited to a luncheon following the burial in the church education center. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of services Monday at church. A special thank you to the staff at Skaalen Home, especially Heritage Center.
