Giuseppe Genova

MADISON- Giuseppe Genova, age 80, of Madison, passed away on Monday, December 12, 2016 at Agrace HospiceCare. He was born on September 5, 1936 in Palermo, Sicily, the son of Giovanni and Rosa Genova. He married Caterina Montalbano on August 22, 1960 in Bagheria, Sicily.

Giuseppe grew up in Bagheria, Sicily with his siblings and mother after losing his father at a very young age. He began working at the age of 7 to help support his family. Family was always his number one priority and when he began his own family that priority never changed. In 1972 with $200.00 in his pocket, he moved with his wife and four children to Chicago to provide them with a better life. After 10 months of living in Chicago, he moved his family to Madison where he lived until his passing. Giuseppe's pride and joy was his family and close friends. He enjoyed spending time with family and preparing large meals especially on Sundays when his children, grandchildren and friends would gather and spend time listening to stories about his childhood and life in Sicily. His greatest accomplishment was providing a better life for his family. He was loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

Giuseppe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Caterina; sons, Giovanni (Jill) and Domenico (Amy); daughters, Rosa (David) Kornelson and Maria Rosaria (Michael) Pries; grandchildren, Joseph, Jesse, Jake, Jared, Mary Grace, Isabella, Gabriella, Alex, Michael, Seth, Luke, Rachel, Cooper and Johnny; sisters, Giuseppina, Angela, and Rosalia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 12:00 p.m. until the time of Mass.
