Georgia Faris

McFarland - Georgiana J. Faris, known by friends and family as Georgia, passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2016 in McFarland. She was born in the Town of Caledonia in Columbia County on July 10, 1918 and was the pride and joy of her parents, William and Lillian. After graduation from Sauk City High School, Georgia worked at the Badger Ordnance plant in Baraboo while living on the family farm near Merrimac. Upon moving to Madison, she worked at the A&P store on University Avenue and attended art classes at the Vocational College. Later, Georgia moved to Columbia, South Carolina to be nearer to her sweetheart, Paul Faris of Arena, WI who was serving in the U.S. Army. Georgia and Paul were married on August 27, 1943 in Jacksonville, Florida, but spent most of their 48 wonderful years together in Madison, Wisconsin. Georgia is survived by two sons, William P. Faris (Kathy) of Stoughton, and James M. Faris (Suzanne) of McFarland; five grandchildren, Angela, Jeanette, William, Michael, and Kristen; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul M. Faris on March 18, 1991. Georgia is remembered by those who knew her well as a kind and gentle presence and someone that was more likely to think of others than herself. And though she spent the majority of her life in the city, she was truly a country girl at heart. Much of her joy came from recalling those special days growing up on the family farm, and she passed those simple pleasures on to those she loved in her warm and welcoming home - a place where the cookie jar was always full, the aroma of fresh baked bread filled the air, and there was enough food to "feed the threshers". A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 12, 2016 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Road, Madison. A visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at Cress on Friday. Burial will be at Arena Cemetery in Arena.
