George John Plzak, M.D., passed away Friday, June 6, 2025, at age 84. He was born on December 14, 1940, in Chicago, IL to the late Dr. Louis and Vivian (Drubek) Plzak. He married Erika Jurgan on December 14, 1963, in Chicago.
George was a veteran having served in the United States Air Force. He was captain in the US Canal Zone, Panama. George attended the University of Chicago, for his undergraduate and medical school. He continued into his Orthopedic Surgery Residency at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. George worked as an Orthopedic Surgeon at Dean Clinic until his retirement. Following retirement, he started a medical device company in Madison.
George was a lifelong sailor on the Great Lakes, built and flew many R/C model planes, and was an avid woodworker and builder. He also enjoyed reading classics, world travel and photography.
George was a devoted husband of Erika Plzak; father to Christina and Maximilian; grandfather to Hans, Elsa and Greta Hinke and Alexandra, Alec and Audrey Plzak; brother to Janice Craig, Linda Woodbury and William Plzak.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Jeanne and brother, Dr. Louis Plzak, Jr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, June 12, 2025 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 602 Everglade Dr., Madison, WI 53717. A visitation will be held from 10:00 am until the time of the Mass. Mass will also be live streamed at the following link: https://www.youtube.com/c/StThomasAquinasChurchMadison/. A celebration of life will also take place later summer, 2025 in Door County.
