George A. Green

April 19, 1923 — September 2, 2008

Stoughton- George Anton Green, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2008 at Evansville Manor.  He was born on April 19, 1923 in Dunn County, the son of Anton and Margeret (Miklebook) Green.  George graduated from Elk Mound High School in 1941.  He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served during WWII, twice in Japan.  George was honorably discharged in November 1946.  On December 21, 1946 he married Agnes Johnston in St. Paul.  Their daughter Shirley was born on May 25, 1947.  The family moved to Stoughton in 1951.  George worked for Wolff Kubly & Hersing as a purchasing agent for many years before he owned and operated the Stationery House of Stoughton for over 3 decades.  George and Agnes were the Syttende Mai King and Queen in 1993.  George loved yard work, bowling, cards and his family.  He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Agnes of Stoughton/Evansville; granddaughter, Renee Zerbel (fiance, Brian West) of Stoughton; nephew, Gerald (Lois) Green of Stoughton; and niece, Linda ( Gary) Jahn of Arizona.  George was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Shirley; brother, Vernon; and infant sister, Mary.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, September 5, 2008 at Olson-Holzhuter-Cress Funeral Home in Stoughton.  Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the funeral home.  A special thank you to the staff of Evansville Manor.  ""One last time, George wants to know what time is it?""
