Genevieve Hilgendorf

Madison - Genevieve S. Hilgendorf, age 93, passed away on Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at Agrace Hospice Care. She was born on February 24, 1924 in Madison, Wisconsin, to Theodore and Rose (Pizzo) Speropulos. She married Arthur Hilgendorf on April 29, 1949 at Grace Episcopal Church in Madison, Wisconsin.

She graduated from Madison East High School. Genevieve worked for several proud years as a stenographer for the president at Gisholt Machine and Tool Company in Madison. She also took great pride in being a USO hostess during World War II. Gen and Art spent 3 years working and living in Europe before starting a family in Madison. Together they enjoyed traveling the United States in their RV with the family. Some of her favorite hobbies was knitting and ceramics, playing cards, and cooking for the family. In 1978 Art passed away and in 1981 she met Jim Davis. Together Jim and Gen loved to dance and play cards, and were close companions for 36 years.

Gen is survived by her companion Jim Davis; son Dennis (Beth) Hilgendorf; daughter, Maria (Ken) Kusel; grandchildren, David (Amy) Hilgendorf, Sara (Eric) Hilgendorf, Jordan Kusel, Kristina Kusel; great grandchildren James, Eliza, Petra, and Tulia. She is also survived by brother John (Esther) Speropulos, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Gen was preceded in death by her parents, husband Art, infant daughter Linda, brother Jim (Joanne) Speropulos, and sister Annie (George) Mathews.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Covenant Lutheran Church, 1525 N. Van Buren St., Stoughton, with Pastor Jerry Tews presiding. Visitation will be held from 10 A.M. until the time of services. Family and friends are invited to a meal in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service. Gen will be laid to rest next her husband at Roselawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to Agrace Hospice Care or the Salvation Army in Genevieve's name.
