Genevieve Derr

Columbus/Sun Prairie - Genevieve F. "Gen" Derr, age 96 passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013. She was born on September 16, 1916 in Marshall, WI, the daughter of Alvin and Elsie (Johnson) Lazers. Gen was a lady before her time graduating from Columbia County Normal and UW-Platteville. She taught for many years in a one room school house in the Columbus and Marshall area. In 1947, Gen was united in marriage to Cyril Theodore Derr. Together they lived in rural Columbus, where they made farming their livelihood. They raised three beautiful daughters. Gen's passion was traveling and fishing with her husband, Cyril and her family. Her biggest passion and love was her family. They meant the world to her. Gen made a point to try and make every event that her grandchildren had.

Genevieve is survived by her three daughters; Margaret Green of Waunakee, Marian (John) Rockholt of Oregon and Diane(John) Kohn of Chetek, four granddaughters; Shelley (Jim) Meyer, Jennifer (Gilbert) Leal, Maggie Green and Toni Rockholt, five great grandchildren; Brittany (Jose) Susunaga, Jacob Meyer, Gabriel , Michael, and Madeline Leal, a great- great granddaughter Layla Martin, a sister Mary Derr and two brothers; Bob Lazers and Jim Lazers . She is also survived by many other loving family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Cyril T. Derr in 1987, a son-in-law, Edward Green, a sister Evelyn Lazers and a brother Alvin "Bud" Lazers.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1935 Hwy V, East Bristol on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11:00 am with Father Robert Butz presiding. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 9:30 am until the time of Mass. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, East Bristol.

Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and Great Great Grandma ...until our travels meet again, we love you and miss you with all our heart!
