Gary J. Lichtenberg, age 70, passed away peacefully at Agrace HospiceCare on Friday, March 30, 2012, with his best friend and wife, Rebecca, at his side. He is now happily cutting heavenly trees with his beloved "Uncle Joey." Gary was born April 10, 1941 to Louise Wrabella in Milwaukee. He worked at the Gardner Baking Company while attending Central High School in Madison, Acme Equipment, and Dairy Equipment before he joined Forest Products Laboratory in 1976. Gary was most proud of his career at the Lab, and would tell people about the accomplishments of the Lab whether he was in Madison or Cairo, Egypt. He retired in September of 2009 but the Lab remained a source of pride and joy for him. Gary is survived by his FPL family, wife Rebecca Schumann, daughter, Carleen (James) Drewel, granddaughter, Tatianna (Marquiz Teniente) Palmer, brother, Chuck (Beth) Schrader, sister Karen Schrader, his beloved aunt Jessie (Joe) Wrabella, nieces and nephews, dear friends, Betty and Marv Telvick, very special Wrabella cousins, the extended Lichtenberg family, and numerous friends. Gary was preceded in death by his parents Louise and Charles Schrader and Emma and Henry Lichtenberg, his beloved uncle Joe Wrabella, and his aunt Kathryn Wrabella Jafferies. A Celebration of Gary's life will be held from 4 until 7 pm on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at CRESS FUNERAL HOME, 3610 Speedway Rd., Madison, WI 53705. A time for sharing stories, and other "Garyisms" will take place at 7pm. Please bring a photo or story to share. A very special thank you to Dr. Amit Sanyal at the Dean Hematology/Oncology Clinic for his tremendous care and compassion, and the wonderful staff of Agrace HospiceCare for their loving compassionate care.
