Gary J. Hack

Madison- Gary J. Hack, age 71, passed away peacefully, with his family by his side, on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Meriter Hospital. He was born in Madison on January 28, 1952, the eldest of three children to Harold and Helen Hack. 

On August 1, 1974 he married the love of his life, Kathryn Haas. Together they enjoyed gallivanting on car rides to take in  interesting sites. Gary worked as an Auto Body painter for 40 years until his retirement. He greatly enjoyed life on his farm, tending to his garden, mowing the lawn, collecting tractors, and working on vintage cars. He loved football, especially the Green Bay Packers and the Wisconsin Badgers. Gary could make friends with anyone he came in contact with. He loved to laugh and had a great sense of humor. Gary enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kathy; sister, Gail (Greg) Walker; brother, Tom Hack; sisters-in-law, Karen (Tim Graham) Hilsenhoff and Barb (Bruce) Rideout; brother-in-law, Dan (Jan) Haas. He is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Gary was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law, David Haas; and sister-in-law, Betty Onofrey.

An informal gathering celebrating Gary will be held from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Cress Funeral Home, 3325 E. Washington Avenue, Madison.

A special thank you to the nursing staff and respiratory therapists at Meriter Hospital. A special thank you to nurse Ashton on 11 Tower who took exceptional care of Gary.
