Obituary

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend, Gary V. Cummings, age 80, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, June 29th, surrounded by his loving family.

Gary was born in Pekin, IL, on January 15, 1946, to Dorothy and Charles Cummings. He grew up in Monroe, WI, with his mother and brother, spending his childhood with neighborhood friends, many of whom remain lifelong friends, ice skating in a nearby empty lot, and developing an early love for history, science, the military, planes, and flying.

After graduating from Monroe High School, Gary earned an associate’s degree in engineering. Curious, creative, and always eager to learn, he and his partner built a nightclub in Sun Prairie, The Phone Booth, now Daly’s, earned his pilot’s license, owned a Cessna aircraft, and built a career with General Telephone Electric, CC&I Engineering, started his first company; Learning Technologies Inc., US Cellular as a regional manager, and finally retired from his second company, NG Netcom LLC.

At “The Booth” in Sun Prairie, Gary met the love of his life, Novella. Together, they built a life and raised three children: Alexandra, Aaron, and Justin. A devoted husband and father, Gary offered quiet strength, compassion, steady guidance, and love shown through presence, patience, and care.

Gary’s love for his family was captured in countless photographs, as he never wanted to miss a moment together. He cherished family gatherings, holidays, celebrations, and simple time spent with the people he loved.

Gary had a gentle confidence and spoke with sincerity, warmth, and enthusiasm. He easily connected with others through shared interests, which included making sourdough bread, researching family history and genealogy, spending time at his hunting cabin with friends, bird watching, gardening, traveling, organizing high school reunions, attending the Oshkosh Airshow, tackling do-it-yourself projects, and most recently, helping build a two-seat Pietenpol aircraft.

Gary is survived by his devoted wife, Novella; his children, Alexandra (Joe), Aaron (Andrea), and Justin (Lindsay); his grandchildren, Bode, Charlie, Quinn, Leah, Cori, Liam, and Grace; and his nephew, Jesse (Becky). He is also survived by numerous family members from coast to coast.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Larry and Terry.

Rest in peace, dear husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend. Your memory, spirit, and love will live on in our hearts forever.
