Gail M. Lewis

Gail M. E. Lewis (nee Chapman), age 91, went peacefully in her sleep to be with her friend Jesus, on March 14th, 2026. Born on July 13th, 1934 in Darlington, WI to Elmer and Jeanette Chapman, she was the third of ten children. She graduated from Dodgeville High School in 1952. On June 11th, 1955, she married the love of her life, Donald W. Lewis. They shared 32 years together here on Earth and will now be together forever.

Her first job was at Master Feed and Seed in Madison, WI as an accounts receivable clerk. She later worked at Sears, Portage Schools, WPS and M & I/BMO Harris Bank.

She was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for over 50 years. Her activities included knitting prayer shawls, serving communion and the altar guild, assembling newsletters, attending bible study, volunteering at the food pantry and Sunshine Suppers, and organizing and participating in the Relay for Life.

Gail will be remembered for her devotion and love of God, her kind and giving nature, dedication to family and friends, and never letting anyone leave her table hungry.

She is survived by her children, Linda L. Lewis of Milwaukee and Steven W. Lewis of Sun Prairie, grandchildren Branden W. Lewis, Nicole E. Lewis, and Japrese J. Lewis,

great-grandchild Eno’Maye L. Hunt; Siblings Karen (Jim) Weisenberger, James (Margie) Chapman, John (Peggy) Chapman, Lynn Chapman, Layne Chapman and brother-in-law Glenn Lewis. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents Elmer (Jeanette) Chapman, in-laws LaVere (Ella) Lewis, siblings Darlene (Robert) Schambow, Richard (Patti) Chapman, Carol (Harry) Weicht, William (MaryJo) Chapman, and other family members including Michael Raddigan, Jeanie Lewis, Jayne Schambow, and Joel Schambow.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday March 28th, 2026 at 11:30 am at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 550 Lincoln Drive in Sun Prairie, WI. The visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of service. A potluck luncheon will be served immediately following the service. A private interment at Eastside Cemetery in Ridgeway, WI will occur at a later date.

Gail is now with God, her Savior.
