Lodi / Lake Wisconsin- Gail Marie Askey, age 71 Passed away after a 20 year battle with cancer, which later advanced to a rare disease known as Angiosarcoma, she fought long and hard, and always had a positive sprit and erased survival records of the type of cancer she had.
She was born on Feb. 3, 1942, in Madison, the daughter of Andrew and Laverna Belgen (Ramlet); she was united in marriage to Terry L. Askey April 10th 1965. She is a 1960 Graduate of West High School.
She always loved being near the water either at her home on Lake Wisconsin, or a vacation home in Florida. In her last days she wrote "Heaven is a little bit closer in a home by the water". Gail passed away at UW-Hospital surrounded by her loving family with a room overlooking Lake Mendota.
She always loved to lend a helping hand to friends, and family. Gail was an extremely loving and comforting person. She was an avid Traveler seeing 40 + states, and going to Norway, and Canada, and Alaska where some of her highlights. Also a lifelong Green Bay Packer fan! Also UW-Badger Basketball fan.
She worked for the State of Wisconsin Dept of Public Instruction, Attic Angles Nursing home, and then retired in 1999 from Nicolet Bio-Medical accounting dept.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father Laverna & Andrew Belgen, and Sister Shirley Anderson.
Gail is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Terry L. Askey of Lodi, son Tim (Rena) Askey of Belleville, Daughters Melissa (James) Porter of Menomonee Falls, Lynda (Daniel) Ferguson of New Glarus. Brother, Alan (Carol) Belgen of Sun Praire. Grandchildren, Terry (Friend Morgan), Adam (Friend Dana) Hayden, Brooke, Jack, Olivia, and Logan. She is also expecting a Great-grandchild in Sept. and said she will be looking over all of them.
Visitation will be held at Cress Funeral home on 3610 Speedway Road, Madison, Friday March 8th 2013 from 4-7 with a church service on Saturday March 9th Visitation from 10-11 a.m. with a service at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church on 312 Wisconsin Ave, Madison, with a burial service to follow at Roselawn Memorial, Monona, WI.
We as a family would like to thank all of Gail's dear friends of many years, and credit them for the support they have given her thought-out all these years. Thank you for all the letters emails and well wishes.
The family would also like to thank her team of Doctors: Olson, Bailey, Kozak, Schilling, and McAllister and all the wonderful nurses and staff at UW-Hospital, Meriter, and Associated Physicians
