G. Brown

MADISON - Once upon a time there was a lad named G. Franklin Brown or "Frank" as he chose to be called. Frank passed away January 29, 2014 at the age of 86.
He was born in 1927 in Fond Du Lac, WI to G. Franklin Brown and Cynthia (Ingalls) Brown - the oldest of 5 children. Living in the country enabled him to attend country school and he often achieved academic honors for his grade level. He later graduated from Goodrich High School and enrolled at The U.W. in the Agriculture Department only to discover he would soon be drafted in the army - thus he spent the next two years serving his country, later to return to The U.W. to continue his education, graduating with a degree in agriculture.
The next summer he did graduate work at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY but returned to The U.W. to obtain his graduate degree in agriculture due to confusion of statistics at Cornell.
His professional career began as the Director of 4-H in Eau Claire County, but he later elected to work for the Dept. of Agriculture in Madison until his retirement. Frank was a devout Christian and served as the speaker for the Baptist Men is Wisconsin.
While he displayed a quiet personality, he possessed a great sense of humor which everyone enjoyed. He was an avid reader, an opera lover, and belonged to a "jogging club" in Milwaukee in addition to his enjoyment of "walking".
He later met the love of his life, Delores "Dee Dee", and they shared 45 years of extreme happiness together - traveling in Europe and the United States, but more important was the fact they shared the same Christian Values.
After his retirement Frank volunteered for the Master Garden Association and was delighted when he was invited to help at the Jung Garden Co. - sharing his knowledge of agriculture and helping customers make decisions about their purchase.
Frank is survived by his wife, Dee Dee; brothers, Stan of Little Rock, AR, Dr. Jon (Lynnore) of Austin, TX; sister Carol (Bob) of Wellsville, KS; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Tom.
A private service will be held at a later date, but the family requests in lieu of flowers or money, please do an act of kindness or help someone throughout the year in honor of Frank.
