Frederick Joseph Zimmer, age 92 passed away peacefully Monday, June 11, 2012. He was born in Madison on May 12, 1920 the son of the late Frederick J. and Elizabeth (Kuehn) Zimmer. Fred was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army during WWII. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Longfield on May 7, 1949 at St. Raphael Cathedral in Madison. Elizabeth preceded him in death on February 16, 2008. For over 25 years, Fred worked in maintenance at Cuna Mutual. He was an active member of St. Bernard Catholic Church, Middleton. Fred enjoyed camping, gardening and was known to be quite the handyman.
Fred is survived by his two daughters: Jane (Pat) Nix and Geralyn (Terry) Westby both of Madison; two grandchildren, Rebecca (fianc� Toby Xu) of Atlanta, GA and Joseph Westby of Madison; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Elizabeth; sister, Dolores Baer and brother, Gilbert Zimmer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church, 2015 Parmenter Street, Middleton, at 11 am on Wednesday, June 13, 2012 with Rev. Msgr. Douglas L. Dushack presiding. Family will greet friends at church, one hour prior to service. Burial with military honors will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery Chapel. A luncheon will follow in the community room at Cress Funeral Home.
