Frank J. Willkom, age 77, passed away suddenly Monday, August 27, 2012 at University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison. Frank was born April 16, 1935 in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin. He was the son of Frank and Alma (Murphy) Willkom. He graduated from McDonell High School in Chippewa Falls in 1952 and worked as a telegrapher and station agent for the Soo Line Railroad while working his way through college. Frank served in the United States Army and then attended University of Wisconsin- Oshkosh. He was united in marriage to Julia Walsh on December 28, 1964 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Durand, IL. He attended University of Wisconsin Law School and graduated in 1966. He was in private practice as an attorney for 44 years in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and served as Sun Prairie Municipal Judge for 38 years. Frank was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and enjoyed traveling, especially to Ireland. Frank was a member of St. Albert the Great Catholic Church. He was a devoted husband, father & grandfather. He was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 47 years; his son Franz, Brookfield, WI; daughters Jeanne (Jeff) Hilger, Fox Point, WI, Colleen (Kelly) Smith, Franklin, WI; grandchildren Emily and Collin Hilger & McKaela Smith; sisters-in-law Gene and Leona Willkom and 56 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Norman and John Willkom and sister Anita (Wayne) Jensen.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church in Sun Prairie at 11:00 am, Friday, August 31, 2012 with Monsignor Terry Conners presiding and Father Jerry Walsh concelebrating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Visitation will also take place Thursday, August 30, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Cress Funeral Home in Sun Prairie. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Albert the Great Catholic Church Building Fund or the Alzheimer's Association, South Central Wisconsin Chapter.
