Mr. Franciszek (Frank) Sadowski, age 88, passed away on February 21, 2023 at his home in Madison, Wisconsin. He was born on January 8, 1935 in Opita, Belarus to Stefan and Stanisława. He married Alina Bagienska on October 4, 1964 at Kościół Mariacki in Słupsk, Poland.
Frank was the youngest of a large family living in rural Belarus. He attended school until the fourth grade, but needed to stop his education prematurely to help maintain his family’s farm. As a young man Frank moved to Słupsk, where he trained to become a tailor. He met the love of his life, Alina, who worked at a delicatessen that he frequented for lunch. With the help of Frank’s brother John, they moved to Racine, Wisconsin in 1965, one year after their marriage. They joked this was their “honeymoon”. Both of their families had been impacted heavily by the World Wars and this was their opportunity to work toward achieving the “American Dream”. Frank and Alina ultimately planted roots in Chicago where Frank worked as a tailor for the department store Carson Pirie Scott. He later worked as a machinist, and eventually saved enough to purchase and manage two apartment buildings with his wife Alina. Frank’s priority was to provide a good life for his family and a quality education for his three daughters, Elizabeth, Irene, and Donna. He loved spending summers at the lake with his family and he could be counted on to take them on any amusement park ride. Frank was also an avid reader of Polish and Russian newspapers to stay abreast of affairs in his homeland. He was long-time parishioner at the St. Tarcisssus Catholic Church in Chicago, then Queen of Peace in Madison. Frank and Alina relocated to Madison, Wisconsin after retirement to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife Alina, his daughters Elizabeth (Scott) Sadowski of Madison, WI, Irene (Ross) Padlin of Madison, WI, and Donna (Adam) Hart of Austin, TX; nine grandchildren, Collin, Steven, Joshua and Nicholas Henderson; Luella, Adelina, and Marlys Padlin; and Colton and Everett Hart; his brother Wiktor (Donna) Sadowski of Słupsk, Poland.
He was preceded in death by his parents Stefan and Stanisława Sadowski, and his siblings Hancia, Janina, John, Stefan, Stanisław, and Jadwiga.
The funeral service was held March 11, 2023 at 10 am at Cress Funeral Home followed by burial at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery in Madison, WI.
