Frances Hauser

Madison - Frances Marett Hauser, age 93, passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2014 at Agrace Hospice in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. Frances, also endearingly known as "Red" for her beautiful red hair, was born on November 1, 1921 in Newry, South Carolina. She was the daughter of Dr. William Clinton Marett and Alice Neely Marett.
"Red" spent her childhood years in Seneca, South Carolina and Clearwater, Florida. She graduated from Winthrop College in Rock Hill, South Carolina with an associate's degree in business. Her first job was at Clemson University in the Department of Agriculture where she met and eventually married Professor Edward R. Hauser. After moving to Madison in 1949, she began her real journey of being a mom while continuing to explore her artistic gifts and talents. Frances had a true passion for the arts. She was an excellent seamstress and often designed her own clothing. She had the ability to look at simple things and create masterpieces. Painting and playing piano were the windows to her soul. She represents the epitome of a woman with great style, elegance and beauty, who never lost her soft southern accent or her proper manners.
As a mom and "memaw", she was able to gently guide us in the right direction with her strong wit and never ending patience. She could find the humor in all situations and let us be the directors of our own lives. Her greatest hope was for us to follow our dreams, cherish every moment, and support each other as a family.
Frances "Red" Hauser is survived by her children Richard Hauser and Patricia Hauser (Thomas) Robison, grandson Wesley (Jessica) Fleer, granddaughters Anna (Jesse) Teekell and Jaime Hauser, and four great-granddaughters Morgan, Madi, Macy Fleer and Neely Teekell. Frances was proceeded in death by her sisters Dorothy Rumble and Mary Warlick, a brother Dr. William Marett, and former husband Dr. Edward R. Hauser. A private graveside service will be held in Seneca, South Carolina at a future date.
Frances and her family want to extend their love and appreciation to the organizations and friends that made it possible for her to live out her life in the comfort of her own home. Senior Coalition (Trevor and Becky), Meals on Wheels, Shopko Pharmacy (Cheryl), Independent Living (Betty), SAIL (John and Deb), her neighbor Merle and dear friends, Mary and Jim.
Although she had help in her later years, her determined, independent spirit served her well. Her body was tired and frail, but she persevered through every obstacle with style, courage and grace. We were all truly blessed to have her in our lives.
